Ford Fiesta...

Post by Anton » Thu Dec 18, 2014 12:08 am

Anyone know how to persuade a Ford Fiesta that I don't want the freakin' aircon on every time I turn the key? This thing turns the aircon on no matter what the heater is set to (apart from off) which makes NO SENSE!

And the stop-start won't start the engine if the car is in gear. Again, that makes no sense - you have to depress the clutch fully to get the stop-start to restart the engine, so why does it have to be in neutral? Having it in first would make for a faster getaway from the lights, and on a few occasions it's messed me about and I ended up being honked at because I was trying to work out why it wouldn't start the engine. Of course, it was actually telling me on the little display, but I'm staring at the foot pedals, the steering rack, the key (which wouldn't turn) and feeling like a right bell.

The car will start normally if the car's in gear, so why not start from a "stop-start" stop? Makes as little sense to me as the car insisting I wanted aircon the other day, whilst happily telling me on the dash that it's 3 degrees C outside. FORD! I'm not a freakin' YETI !!!

I also can't work out why this thing is SO SLOW. It's a 1.5 TDI. It has 135ft-lb torque. So it's 5 down on the Yaris. The gearing is about the same (900rpm in 5th gives you 27mph, same as the yaris) it has roughly the same speeds in the other gears, it has roughly the same weight, and roughly the same HP. But it takes over 14 seconds to get to 60, where the Yaris takes 10.

Seriously, Ford - it's a nice car, it looks fabulous, but seriously - sort out these weirdnesses.

Oh, and for those of you wondering why I'm in a Ford Fiesta, a white van man decided to rearrange the back end of the Yaris recently, and the Fiesta is a courtesy car while his insurance company sorts out the Yaris. No-one was hurt, thankfully. But that means in the last year, the Yaris has been hit FOUR TIMES - twice up the butt, once while parked (bus hit and run, probably - bus coloured paint on the wheel) and some twat reversed into me the day after the first time it was hit up the butt.

Starting to think it's magnetic or something.

For a moment there I'd thought you'd gone mad...a fucking Ford?? Sorry about the 'lil Yaris being hit up the 'arris.

As for the Fails On Race Day I'd pull out the fuses. Sod it, it's a rental. Thrash the nuts off it and try and dent every corner while you're at it too. And it's slow because it's a Ford, a diesel, it's a Ford, it's too heavy and it's a Ford.

Oh and it's a Ford.
If it ticks over...leave it

My work transit switches its air con on when its cold and I try to demist the screen. Air con air is dryer so will remove mist quicker.

Sometimes I have to put the aircon on in the Yaris to demist the front windscreen, but usually only when it's wet/foggy out.

Maybe that's what the Fiesta is up to!

Fiestas :argh: I got 2003 sitting out side. The coil pack went and to get to it the whole injection system out, not any more its now on the bulkhead. The central locking only works with the key unlocking the passenger door, can only open the drivers door from inside and to find out what's wrong with it I've got to take the window frame out. Last time it went out the cat snapped, yes the guarantee ran out a month ago. Bloody Ford hate them all, apart from old school, had a mk2 escort van as a lad epic motor

The Yaris has given its fair share of problems - leaky aircon, something wrong with the front subframe that made it eat tyres and brakes (which Jemca claimed was down to bad driving and then quietly replaced the front subframe while working on the leaky aircon - which still leaks)...

I'm not a fan of modern Yotas either. Ever since they started building them in France, quality control has gone to the dogs.

I'm getting a VW next time I get a new daily driver.

All the yotas here are imported direct from Japan. Quality is visibly better than the few that come from UK.
