Post by Dave » Thu Oct 08, 2015 9:57 am

I'm a new member just got a grand vitara the tyres at the mo are 235/65/16 is it OK to put on 205/ r16 mud tyres as these are not as wide . would it affect driving / gearing or suspension many thanks Dave

A 205/75/16 will be about the same size so won't affect gearing etc. Might not be grippy enough to be safe though? Mud tyres offer less grip on the road, so downsizing *and* going to an MT might be a bad idea. Might be fine, might not.

Dunno.

Why are you thinking of downsizing?

Hi having a job to find part worn tyres 235/60 R16 really looking four tyres that would give me more grip off road and be OK on the road the other tyres 205 /16 have been offered to me but not sure about them got any thoughts regarding my dilemma for tyres or advice thanks

They would be an inch taller. Gearing will be 3.2% higher.

They will fit but may be a little skinny for the rims so may risk pulling one off the rim more easily offroad. As Anton says if the tread is too aggressive or they are cheap remoulds you might find them lacking in grip/footprint for a vehicle that size/weight.

ebay does tyres that size as does 4x4tyres.co.uk

Not part worn, but honestly you're better off saving your money until you can afford the tyres your vehicle needs. You'll regret skimping on tyres, you'll just end up saving up, and then spending, on bigger tyres. We've all got tyre lust, all of us, at some point or another. Everyone on here who muds has lusted after bigger tyres, and by now most of the regulars are on 31" or 33" tyres.

Donkeychomp is even talking about getting bigger tyres for his *spare* offroader, his main ride being sat on 33" boots. Mine is on 31's and I'd really like it to be sat on 33's...

Got my tyres from that very place...good prices and a fast delivery. Might plonk the 33's on the vit and go for 35's on the LJ...with some beefing up here and there of course!

Good on ya, Dave. Keep an eye on the club's facebook page, and the 4x4 sales facebook page. Tyres come up on there regularly.
