Sj with 1.6 8v bogs going up hill

I have a sj 410 with a 1.6 8v carb engine. I've put on a new fuel filter and have a facet pump on it mounted next to the tank. I've also blanked off the old mechanical pump. Yet when I climb a hill as I get to the top its dieing out as soon as I press the clutch down it goes back to normal until I let the clutch out then it happens again. Once I pull over and wait 5 seconds it pulls away normal again until I meet another Hill. Any ideas?

What carb are you running? was it ok when you were running the original mechanical pump?

No it done the same thing when running the mechanical pump so I put the electric one on then it drove fine until it's started to flood it's self so removed the mechanical pump

Sounds like it could be fuel starvation, maybe the float is sticking in the carb, to be honest the standard carbs are junk anyway, might be worth thinking about a carb swap.

Other than that you might need to strip the carb and give it a clean etc. they aren't the simplest of carbs to strip and clean though.

I've heard people put the su carb on would this benefit? And how easy is it?

It's easy to do, best to buy a modified inlet manifold rather than an 'elbow' adapter though.

It will cost around £200 for an inlet and a carb though unless you can find a secondhand modded inlet.
