Vinyl stripes

Post by TyZuk » Sun Oct 16, 2016 3:44 pm

Hi there! A little while back i bought a 2001 Jimny for cheap and decided I wanted to make it my own, This certain Jimny came with those nasty looking blue and silver 90's style speed stickers down both sides :yuk: so I've decided to try remove them, however the blue stickers are really cracked and a nightmare to get off! the silver just peeled off in one, but the blue is stubborn as anything! So if anyone could give me an idea that is quicker than using a hairdryer it'd be much appreciated!
As you can see from the pictures (excuse the dirt) I have actually done one whole side, but the other side seems to be tougher. It has also left a slight stick mark on the edges of where they were so if you had any idea what would get that off that would be awesome!

A hairdryer plus a sharpened lolly/Popsicle stick to start the edges off.

You can also trickle lighter fluid behind the stickers on very stubborn areas.

Any stronger fluids and you'll notice red paint coming off on your rags!

Oh and a chair, as can be slow work!

I've used something called sticky stuff remover, got it from halfords. It's great for removing the sticky residue. I used to get gum out of the carpet in the car. Good stuff
Sid James gone but never forgotten
Jimny 1.6 not as good as an SJ but still good

You meant 'remover'?

The cheaper types have no Acetone, which is waay kinder to the paintwork :D
