Hi,

I've had wheel wobble for months now and finally decided to do something about it. Taken front swivel off and removed the driveshaft. Found out that the top king pin bearing was full of sandy grit, which won't help.

Also the CV joint is a little suspicious, so I want to get this off the drive shaft, but how do I do this??????

Is it a simple case of shoving the driveshaft in the vice and applying a little outward persuasion to the CV joint with a hammer, or is there something more cunning????

Just for your information, it seems that it is not possible to remove the CV joint from the half shaft, without destroying it. I asked at Suzuki, and they don't supply the CV joint on it's own, only the complete driveshaft. That was going to be over 4000 Kroner (£400) so I decided to clean out the one I had and pack new grease into it.

sorry for a late reply on this thread but just seen it now....

the cv's on a Zook shaft CAN be separated from the shaft.... they just take a bit of persuasion... ones from a Spanish built vehicle come off slightly easier than a jap... jap built can be a real struggle.... but its definitely possible...

all thats holding the cv on is a small snap ring on the end of the shaft... so all it has to do it overcome that ring....

best way ive found to do this, is get a bit of tube.. i used 2" tube from memory... put the shaft down the tube so the bottom of the cv is resting on the top of the tube, bit of wood on the floor, and then holding the cv on the tube, slam the tube onto the wood on the floor as hard as you can...

sounds as bit rough... but it works :P at least, the last few sets ive done worked fine :mrgreen:

same for 410's and LJ's... (thats how us LJ owners get front discs 8-)

If you can get C clip pliers to work then this is your answer. Mine wouldn't get into the space though.

So I sat on the ground with the half shaft coming up between my legs to hold the thing still and went at it with 2 screw drivers trying to open up the C clip enough to get it off.

Just watch your eyes in case it pings off into them and keep your eyes peeled for where else it might ping off too!

Be aware. when you wash out your CV it will not be smooth in operation until you put more grease in and you will see little shavings of metal coming off of it until you re-grease it. Don't be alarmed if it goes rough in operation and locks into position as you wiggle it about without grease. this is caused by the lack of gease.

Pack with good quality CV grease upon putting it back together and don't lose the balls!

I use a piece of pipe just big enough to slide the axel shaft into, lots of penetrating oil and I just drop the axel in the pipe.....well throw it actually. I've never had one not let go. When I did my front disc swap on my LJ, I had to swap the dirfs for some from a 410. You have to seperate 2 LJ and 2 410 and this worked like a charm.

Like the post above said, most people just swap the axel at the same time.
