steering column mot failure

Post by MudMuncher » Thu Sep 17, 2015 6:52 pm

hi, my SJ has failed MOT... loose wheel bearing, tightened up ready for retest, but the second failure was play in the steering UJ. Upon closer inspection, the UJ is fine, the play the tester was on about is coming from the end bearing/bush in the steering column iteself. Quick visit to Suzuki main dealer and the price for new column is..... £295.62! expensive MOT this one....
So, ideally, I'm looking for a decent replacement column with keys, or without, much much much cheaper than a new one. If anybody has a scrap SJ or can point me in the direction of anybody who'd be likely and able to help me out I'd be really grateful. I have done loads of work on her and its a kick in the ballsack its failed on such a thing, safety first accidents last though ey!
Any advice or alternatives would also be most appreciated to help me fix this, many thanks.
