Hi Gilly - I have several SU44s lying around, all variously knackered and incomplete- cheap used off eBay and generally a mistake. I found the bits from Burlen all added up to quite a lot, and the fuss of strip down and decent rebuild made it not worth it for me. Spoke to Burlen and they quoted approx £220 for a rebuild, AND about 16 weeks... !! So I got a rebuilt carb from DGS Carburation off eBay: £185. Basically a lot of cash but the carb looks very well done (been inside to have a proper look) and I wasted as much as that on a few bad old ones.
One of the ones I have has a decent spindle etc - if any use all yours for post.

Thanks for the kind offer, the kits vary from 40 to about 60 quid so not bad at all and I'm more than capable of doing the rebuild. I've basically had it all to bits in various stages. I need at very least a full gasket kit and a good set of bushes and throttle spindle.

Hi guys

A bit of a novice here but was wondering if someone could assure me i got the right SU to bolt up to my SJ410.

The garage insists I'm missing parts for it to make it a direct fit to the mani? Its a Hif38 (fzx 1414).

Do i need a mounting bracket ? Seems like the bolts where the current carb is bolted to the mani are not diametrically

opposed to each other like they are on the SU, could be a slight of eye though. Any thoughts?

That looks like a HIF44 or bigger.

You need a HIF38 for the f10 engine. personally though I prefer the original aisin carb. if they are looked after, cleaned well and set uop properly they are awesome carbs.

Ah, strange.


Per the part number tag on the SU i have it matches a hif38 for a metro on the SU catalog website
Could there be a different model that is a direct fit for the F10A?

sorry I was a bit tired last night....was a long day in the workshop.... your picture is of the air filter side, not the side that bolts up to the inlet :lol:

The side that bolts onto the inlet should have 4 bolt holes and you just use 2 to bolt it up to the inlet manifold.

You do need to do a bit of port matching on the inlet and open up/oval the bolt holes slightly.

Iv'e seen throttle and choke plates machine shopped by people on ebay, do you reckon you can find something like that

for the air filter hose?

You might be able to find one online, the originals used something like this:

Otherwise just a bit of short pipe welded to a face plate wouldn't be too hard to knock up.

I saw this plate for rigging the throttle linkage but how did you guys do the choke?

Needle question, where should this black retainer sit in relation to the damper, should it be recessed, flush, or proud? There is only a groove not a specfic locating point for setting the height, so I can set it wherever, just need to know what the 'wherever' should be.
