| Changing oil in the Suzuki SJ Transfer box ... |
Just as the oil in the gearbox and engine needs to be checked and
changed, so does the oil in the transfer box. Checking and changing the
oil in the transfer case is not as easy as checking and changing the
oil in the engine, but it is still a relatively simple job. The SJ410
transfer box holds 1.2 pints (0.7 litres), while the SJ413 transfer box
holds 1.4 pints (0.8 litres) of SAE75W-90 oil, and like the engine, it
is not wise to overfill.

Begin by placing a bowl underneath the transfer box to catch the old
oil that is to be drained out. Next, remove the oil filler plug - you
will find it most frustrating to have drained out all the oil only to
find you can't remove the plug to refill the diff again.
Now make sure the bowl is still in place to catch all the oil, and then
loosen and remove the oil drain plug. After a while all the oil will
have drained out, and the transfer box will be as empty as it is likely
to be under the circumstances (there will always be a residual amount
of oil left in the casing).

Replace the drain plug and start to
refill the transfer case with new gearbox oil until it just begins to
overflow out of the filler hole. Replace the filler plug and it's as
simple as that ! !
If the filler plug is really locked tight, and cannot be removed, you
can remove the gear lever and fill the transfer case though the top of
the T-case.
Just be careful not to overfill the transfer box, too much oil is just as bad as too little oil.
