While driving on tarred roads, headlight guards protect your headlights from flying road debris. This is also true when driving off road, however the headlight guards offer added protection against off road hazards. Tail Light guards add extra protection to the rear light area, and of course, the indicator light guards protect the indicators and side lights.

All this protection, while adding a customised appearance to your SJ. Surely this has to be one of the cheapest types of insurance you could ever hope to have. Light guards are available in different styles. Some are purely cosmetic, and not at all practical. Guards with broadly spread slats are not very effective against flying stones (but will keep branches at bay), while steel mesh types that hinge open make cleaning easier. At the end of the day, it is a matter of personal choice, and what you can get your hands on at the time.

Installation ...

More than likely you would have picked up a set of pre-owned light guards. If this is the case, they would probably not have been supplied with screws to fit them. It is a matter of popping out to your local hardware store, and picking up a few self tapping screws and the correct size drill bit. Make sure that the screws are stainless steel. They cost a bit more, but are well worth the small extra investment when keeping rust at bay.

To fit the light guards, cover the area with masking tape. Hold the guards in place and mark the position where the holes will be drilled. Drill the holes, and touch up the area with a bit of paint to prevent any rust. Once the paint has dried, screw the guards in place.

That's all there is to it ! !
